Areej Kaoud

Areej Kaoud is a Palestinian visual artist raised in Sharjah and Montreal. Her art practice draws on her interest in narratives and disastrous scenarios. Emergency provisions are a common subject in her practice using writing, recording, performance art, data accumulation and installation. Kaoud’s projects articulate the distance between anxiety, preparedness and the humour which takes place in preparing for non-immediate threats.

Her most recent performance in the UK was at Tate Modern in Tate Exchange, and indigo+madder where her first solo exhibition was held in 2020. She has been commissioned in 2019 by the New York University Art Gallery to produce a large-scale sculpture titled Unknown Safety 2019 and the recordings An Escalation (2016-Ongoing). Kaoud’s work has been shown at Delfina Foundation, Art Dubai, Bolivia Biennale, ISCP New York, Tashkeel, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Korea, The Hangar, JPFN Museum and Satellite in AlSerkal Avenue.
